Description | Locally made timber stand, with back in form of a scale section of a Metropolitan Railway carriage, including opening hinged door marked "1st" and "93". Base, with two places for ink pots and pen stands, sign written "Aldersgate April 1897". Ink-pots and second pen stand missing. The object was "Made from a first class door on coach No.93" which is "Said to have been blown up" in a bomb attack on 26 April 1897. In this attack, a device exploded in a train standing at Aldersgate station, causing damage to the station roof. Falling debris inflicted fatal injuries on two passengers. |
